Room Series - Work on Paper
2020-2021
Room Series concerns the representation of an interior space on paper.
During the pandemic, the bedroom became the place where we all spend most of our time. The way we look at our bedrooms has changed drastically, as they are now the place where we rest and also, where we work, where we exercise, where we do our life. This has influenced my analysis of a domestic space.
In this way, the edges of each piece represent a container of a room, which explains the square format of the work.
The fluting texture within the work represents the ground of a space, in where we are all indoors on it. The playful usage of colour has a dialogue with the organic and geometric forms, created with tape, which has been removed from the work, but it is still present as a scan of it.
This enigmatic forms over the ground are a way to map the space, and in a small scale of work, they aim to invite the viewer for a closer inspection and to possess a personal experience of it.
“A house that has been experienced is not an inert box. Inhabited space transcends geometrical space”. (Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics Of Space, 1957, p. 47) Therefore, the use of tape outside the edges of the work represents the transcendence of an internal space to the outside as a subjective consciousness, between real life and dreaming.
