Paintings
2019-2020
The paintings aim to represent domestic spaces and create a dramatic and mysterious narrative around them which are often, performed by a female figure. The space is defined by straight lines, with no perfect perspective but with an illusion of depth.
The work concerns surface, materiality and texture, with a semi-abstracted quality.
The textures within the work and the sensual and vibrant use of colours creates a dream-like narrative, supported by Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung’s theories about the unconscious mind and dreams.
The surface has a glossy result where the inks immerse onto the textures.
“Somewhere Between” uses the absence of figurative elements to express the unconscious mind, within an empty space, more pointedly.
“Dreaming” embraces a different type of texture and it was used to cover, partially, the interior space (defined by a line and a sofa) to create an immersive atmosphere and represent the condition of dreaming.
“Broken Walls” Series and “Fingers”: the texture means the subject.
